Death Sentence to People with HIV/AIDS

California's Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has proposed budget cuts for programs that help people living with AIDS and HIV. He also proposed cuts to almost every program area, including education, healthcare, social services, public safety, transportation, parks and prisons. His reason is that he’s trying to revive the economy but how can you revive something by purposely taking the lives of many people living with HIV/AIDS? Recently California law-makers proposed to cut down our dearest terminator cuts to the HIV/AIDS program from $80 to $33.5 million.

I can't believe that someone in the position he is right now could actually do something that is pretty disgusting. He was put in office by many voters some of who are living with HIV/AIDS. According to the Los Angeles Times, the number of Californians living with the disease continues to grow by 6,500 to 9,000 individuals each year. If his proposed cuts are approved, I’ll be one of the many people impacted, a 24 year-old Latin guy. Thanks to these programs and all the people working for them I have the chance to take my medications. Without these programs I wouldn't be able to afford them, just like millions of people around the world.

All these budget cuts mean disaster for many people in the state of California, and even death. HIV/AIDS medications are very expensive. With such a bad economy ruining the country and the whole world right now, people won't be able to buy the HIV medications to help keep them alive. Some of these people are little kids that may have been born with the illness; some are people who got it by accident. The rest of them got infected because they didn’t think of using a condom that night while horny at the club.

Let’s just hope for a miracle. Let’s hope that this shameful proposition proposed by the “Terminator” will never be approved because if it goes through and the state legislature approves his cuts the state of California and Arnold will be handing me a death sentence.
